The tracks already pointed to a violent crime. Now there is sad certainty.

The couple found dead in their family home in Wennigsen, Lower Saxony, have been stabbed to death. That was the result of the autopsy of the corpses, said a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor’s office in Hanover.

The stab wounds were caused by “a sharp object”. The 59-year-old and his 60-year-old partner then bled to death. A murder weapon has not yet been found.

The spokeswoman said there were still no suspects. Traces are currently being evaluated and witnesses questioned. A motive is still being sought. A colleague of the man was worried on Monday and alerted the police. Officials then found the couple lifeless.

Just two weeks ago, a dead couple was discovered in their home in Neustadt am Rübenberge, also in the Hanover region. In this case, after days of searching, the investigators were able to arrest the son of the 53-year-old woman who was killed at Gifhorn train station. The 27-year-old is said to have stabbed his mother and her 59-year-old husband.
