A sequel to the cult comedy “Manta, Manta” is imminent. Extras are already being sought for the strip in NRW. For example, people who are not so attached to their hair are welcome.

Hairdressers, racing drivers and beach bar guests: around 2,000 extras and small actors are being sought in North Rhine-Westphalia for a sequel to the cult comedy “Manta, Manta” from the 1990s.

The shooting of “Manta Manta 2” is planned from mid-June to early August in Dortmund, Cologne, Bad Driburg, Mettmann and Dormagen, said the co-owner of the responsible casting agency, Gregor Weber, the German Press Agency. You’re looking for people who could stand in front of the camera with the stars of the film for one to five days of shooting.

«Men and women from 6 to 80 years from all over North Rhine-Westphalia are invited. Hundreds of spectators, journalists and the racing team have to be found for an exciting car race,” explained Weber, who regularly recruits extras for such large-scale projects. In addition, guests are looking for “a chic beach bar, where there are pretty bikini girls and party guests in beach and club outfits”. The casters also have special requests: They are looking for female and male DJs, people with experience in karting, as well as real hairdressers – and people “who can have their hair cut in front of the camera”.

Till Schweiger at it again

The original film “Manta, Manta” was released in 1991 and helped the foxtail, the automobile that gave it its name and all sorts of associated clichés to achieve cult status. At the same time, it was the cinema debut of Til Schweiger (58), who played Proll Bertie in the Ruhr area comedy about an Opel gang. Tina Ruland (55) mimed the hairdresser Uschi. Actor Michael Kessler (54) was also part of the ensemble. There has been talk for some time that there could be a sequel. In April, the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW announced in a statement about funded projects that Schweiger would direct and lead.

The casting call now reveals a little more about how to proceed: Bertie was broke when Uschi came back into his life – their son needs his father. “In order to make ends meet, the family must return to what used to tear them apart – to racing,” the text says. Schweiger, Ruland and Kessler are back in the second part.

The casting is open, free and online. Interested parties can deposit their data and two current photos on the website www.manta-casting.de. Application deadline is June 16th.
