In a keynote address, US Secretary of State presented blinking as the greatest long-term challenge to the international order. Now China is reacting – and raising allegations.

From the Chinese government’s point of view, the US is spreading false information and exaggerating the threat from China.

Responding to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s keynote speech on China on Friday, State Department spokesman Wang Wenbin also accused the US of interfering in China’s internal affairs and discrediting its domestic and foreign policies.

“The purpose is to curb and suppress China’s development and maintain US supremacy and power,” Wang Wenbin told the press in Beijing in a lengthy response. The so-called “rules-based international order” is nothing more than a set of rules that the USA and a handful of countries have formulated.

In his speech, Blinken presented China as the greatest long-term challenge for the international order, despite the acute crisis caused by the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. China is the only country “that has both the intention to transform the international order and, increasingly, the economic, diplomatic, military and technological power to do so.” But he assured that the US wanted to avoid a new Cold War.
