Have you ever fallen asleep by the window on a plane? A flight attendant strongly advises against it – and you shouldn’t wear shorts on board either. Otherwise bacteria have an easy time.

Proper flying requires learning: There are a few things you should pay attention to on board an aircraft. Of course, no one knows that better than someone who works in an airplane and knows exactly what’s going on behind the scenes. The TikTok user @tommycimato is someone like that: he works as a flight attendant and reports on his experiences on the video platform.

In a video, Tommy revealed some things that passengers should avoid if possible during a flight. His five tips and tricks are primarily aimed at the hygienic conditions on the plane – and they often don’t seem to be particularly appetizing.

Tips for flying: Don’t touch anything!

The experienced flight attendant advises guests not to touch the flush button in the airplane toilet with their bare hands: “To be honest, it’s pretty unhygienic and gross.” Instead, you should use a handkerchief or something similar.

If you have a window seat, it is best not to lean your head against the window pane when sleeping. “You’re not the only one who does this and you don’t know how many people or children have wiped their hands or other things on the glass,” says Tommy. So there could be a lot of bacteria on the window.

Drink enough water

For the same reason, he doesn’t think it’s advisable to wear shorts on board – even though they can be a lot more comfortable than long pants, especially on long flights. However, there is also a high risk of getting unwanted bacteria and germs here, since many people have previously sat on the seat. In short, the tips can probably be summed up as follows: minimize skin contact with surfaces on the plane.

It is also important to drink enough water, Tommy explains in the video. You should take about half a liter with you on every flight. However, if it happens that you get sick or feel unwell during a flight, you should not hesitate to speak to the flight crew: “We are here to help you.”
