According to a report, members of the royal family in Great Britain are said to have taken in refugees from Ukraine. Details and names were not disclosed.
According to a British newspaper report, the royal family is stepping up its aid for refugees from Ukraine. Members of the royal family have taken in Ukrainians, the Daily Express newspaper reported on Saturday.
The paper did not write who it was. The royals would be “working behind the scenes on a number of projects and wanted to keep their input private.” A palace spokesman told the “Express”: “We support in various ways, but will not comment further.”
Around 150,000 people in Britain have offered to take in refugees from Ukraine. So far, around 53,800 Ukrainians have arrived in the country. Again and again there is criticism that the difficult British visa system delays or prevents entry.
It wouldn’t be the first time the palace has taken in refugees. During World War II, Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands and King Haakon VII of Norway and his son Prince Olav, who had fled the Nazis, found refuge there.
Queen Elizabeth II, heir to the throne Prince Charles and Queen’s grandson Prince William have repeatedly pledged their support to Ukraine in the war against Russia and donated money to aid organizations. Charles and his wife, Duchess Camilla, recently met with members of the Ukrainian community during their visit to Canada. The Queen wore the national colors of Ukraine, blue and yellow. She also had flower arrangements in these colors set up in her Windsor Castle residence.
