The cause of the incident with seven people, some seriously injured, was probably an accidental incorrect operation of the car by the 33-year-old.

In Riedstadt, southern Hesse, seven people were injured, some seriously, at a birthday party when a woman drove her car through a guest area.

The police initially said the woman had driven through a barbecue hut and later corrected her statements. Accordingly, the car did not drive through the actual hut, but the directly adjacent, covered lounge area.

The 33-year-old also attended the celebration, the police said. She then got into her SUV parked in front of the hut with her husband, gave full throttle and drove through the affected area. After initial investigations, the police assume that the cause of the accident was accidental incorrect operation of the car by the driver.

Three women, aged 39, 41 and 43, including the hostess, were seriously injured – one of them was taken to hospital by helicopter, police said. Three other people aged 37, 43 and 44 and the driver escaped with minor injuries. Other guests were cared for by a pastor. Around 75 emergency services were deployed after the incident in the Riedstadt district of Crumstadt.
