Double murder and attempted murder for base motives: This is the charge in the trial that is now beginning in Verden, Lower Saxony.

Almost six months after the fatal shots at two people in Fischerhude, Lower Saxony, the trial of a 64-year-old man began in Verden.

At the session of the regional court on Monday, the accused was presented in shackles. He is charged with two counts of murder and attempted murder. According to the prosecutor’s office, the 64-year-old wanted revenge on a business partner whom he blamed for his economic ruin.

That’s why he shot his mother (73) and brother (56) on December 28, 2021. The defendant shot a relative of the mother in the head. The 53-year-old survived with serious injuries. The accused acted insidiously and with base motives, it said.

The defense held out the prospect of a statement from their client for the next day of the hearing, June 27. After the crime in the artists’ village on the Wümme, the suspect fled. The next day he turned himself in to the police. During interrogations, he reportedly confessed to the crimes.

More than 30 days of negotiations are scheduled for the process until the end of December. So far, 55 witnesses and 5 experts have been invited, the court said. The hearing will take place in the Stadthalle Verden.
